The conversation kept circling back to the same thing: someone else that week had messaged asking whether we knew a good hotel. It wasn't the first time. It wasn't even the tenth.

So, half as a joke, we started actually doing it. No app, no company — just us, texting hotel owners we knew, vouching for the people we were sending them, and making sure friends, and then friends of friends, ended up somewhere good.

Here is the part that matters: it worked. Real travellers stayed at real hotels because one of us made the introduction personally. Not a projection, not a slide in a deck — it had already happened, for a year, before any of this was software.

Eventually the question stopped being "can we keep doing this by hand" and became "what if this was a platform". KhmerRooms is that introduction, made at a scale three people with phones could never reach. The booking still goes straight to the owner, and the property is still one we have checked.

We are building it for the whole country. Siem Reap is simply where we started — it is where the first properties came through verification — and we are opening new cities as their hotels complete it. If you run somewhere worth staying, wherever you are in Cambodia, we want it on here.
